Third-best burger in the nation?

We’re No.3!
Wait a minute; no, we’re not.
On Friday morning, TV stations in town started spreading the news. The Wall Street Journal had picked the Cherry Cricket as having the third-best hamburger in America. No.1, they announced, was Seattle’s Red Mill Burgers. No.2 was L.A.’s In-N-Out Burger. And No.3 - our own glorious Cherry Cricket. TV loved it. Teases! Live shots! Burgers!
But on Saturday, the burger ranking came out in the WSJ Pursuits section - and no Cherry Cricket. The roster was now the nine best burgers in America - and No.4 Dirty’s from Austin, Texas, was now elevated to No.3.
Was we robbed or what?
Seems Dan Klores Communications, a New York PR powerhouse that reps The Wall Street Journal’s weekend edition, sent out a release last Thursday with a graphic that displayed Denver’s Cherry Cricket as No.3. It just wasn’t that way in the real paper.
The author of the burger story, Raymond Sokolov, told me Tuesday that the Cherry Cricket was never really on the roster. “I was supposed to go there and had every intention, but weather kept me out of Denver. I will say that I have heard wonderful things about the Cricket. I have every reason to expect that I would love the place.”
But how did the Cricket get on the list when it wasn’t?
“It must have been some kind of glitch, maybe with the graphic department,” said Sokolov.
Jennifer Roach (a Denver native who loves the Cricket) at Dan Klores sent out the release and apologized for the mistake.
Oh well. Never mind.
